Places to visit and see on the Lizard Peninsula

 

Poldhu BeachSandy beaches: Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Poldhu, Coverack, Polurrian, Gunwalloe - all with cafes, hotels and snack stands nearby. There are many smaller beaches and harbours to discover tucked away around the coastline. Many of our beaches are dog friendly - just check out the Vist Cornwall website to see which ones.

 

St Michael's Mount is only a 40 minute drive away with a long sandy beach at Marazion.

Villages and places of interest: Cadgwith, Porthleven, Mullion, Coverack, Porthallow, St Keverne, Porthoustock, Helford River, Frenchman's Creek, Port Navas, Durgan, Manaccan, Goonhilly Downs.

 

The Lizard (below) is the most southerly point in England and is an amazing place to visit.

Interesting towns: Helston, Falmouth, St Ives, Newlyn, Penzance, Truro.

Gardens nearby: Trebah, Glendurgan, Trengwainton, Trelissick, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Eden Project.

Things to do: For the more energetic, there is golf (at Mullion), short golf (at Helston), horse riding (from Ruan Minor), cycling (from Mullion), fishing trips (from Penzance and Falmouth), boat trips from Cadgwith (with Nigel Legge), diving (at Porthkerris or Cadgwith) and surfing (best at Poldhu Cove and Kennack Sands).

At Christmas time most Cornish villages are decorated with fairy lights at night and on Christmas Day there is swimming at Cadgwith and Coverack.

Cream Teas: here in Cornwall it is hard to find the best cream tea but you must try the Old Cellars, Cadgwith (also famous for their home made doughnuts with jam and clotted cream!), Polpeor Cafe at Lizard Point, Harbour Lights at Coverack (even provides gluten free scones).

Pasties: You will find pasty shops all over the area - Ann's pasty Shop at The Lizard, Leggy's Pasties at Ruan Minor, Elizabeths Pasties at Coverack AND 5 pasty shops in Helston.

Fresh crabs and lobster: are supplied by Cadgwith Cove Crab and can be pre-ordered - contact Mel on 01326 290213.

Fresh fish: is available from The Cadgwith Fish Seller open in Cadgwith weekday afternoons from 3pm - tel 01326 290746 or 07960 714687. The Cadgwith fishermen were featured in Monty Hall's BBC programme and book `The Fisherman's Apprentice`.
