Porthleven is another fishing village, larger than Cadgwith, on the western side of the Lizard peninsula facing across Mount’s Bay. Its harbour is a deep inlet from the sea, protected by three sets of granite walls. The area around the harbour is very picturesque with three pubs and several excellent restaurants, including Kota – famous for its seafood. The village is well situated for touring the whole of west Cornwall and is an ideal base for exploring the coast path and magnificent cliff scenery. There are lots of sandy beaches and family attractions nearby. The adjacent Loe Pool is the largest freshwater lake in Cornwall and offers secluded woodland walks and plenty of wildlife. Only three miles away is the quaint old Cornish town of Helston, notable for the Flora Dance. Restormel provides one whole floor of a modern house on the side of the valley. The garden and decking area have panoramic views out to sea and across the village. It has its own access and parking. The nearest beach and the village centre are both within five minutes walk.

We have had a wonderfully relaxing time over the last fortnight staying in Restormel which is kitted out beautifully - everything you could possibly need to feel at home. Mary and Mike upstairs are a lovely couple who have made sure our stay here has been comfortable and very pleasurable and we thank them for their kindness during our two week stay. Porthleven is a quaint and fascinating harbour village with warm and welcoming people and we had much fun joining in with their bi-centenial celebrations of the Harbour's inception.

August 2011- We have spent a very relaxing and comfortable week at Restormel.Mary and Mike made us extremely welcome. They were on hand if we needed anything and gave us lots of suggestions for places to eat and visit.

Porthleven is a lovely place, enough going on to be interesting but not too busy.

Thank you!

Clare Nicolaou

We had a lovely time staying at Restormel! Our hostess, Mary, who lives upstairs, was wonderful and catered to our every need, and could not have been more helpful. She greeted us with a bottle of wine and even brought our little cocker spaniel home one night after she'd wandered into the local pub to meet and greet the locals!

The cottage itself is fully equipped, clean and spacious. It has a lovely garden overlooking the bay. Mary was kind enough to trim down the hedge so our view was unadulterated and we had many BBQs sitting in the garden.

Porthleven is a lovely seaside town and there are good local pubs and excellent walks in the nearby National Trust land.
The village is close to St Michael's Mount and Lands End and there are plenty of things to do for families. Our children loved pottering around the bay and the locals were all very friendly and willing to impart their local knowledge to us.

We hope to return in the not too distant future!
