Wend your way
into Cadgwith Cove and take yourself along the cliff path. There
you will find a pretty thatched cottage with whitewashed walls and
roses around the door. This is Vine Cottage. The cottage is a Grade
II listed building dating back to at least 1770 and appears in travel
guides all over the world. Most rooms have breathtaking views out
to the sea and over the cove itself wake up to the sound
of the sea lapping or fishing boats launching from the beach. This
really is a very idyllic place to stay. The house is comfortably
furnished and provides wonderful holiday accommodation.
Accommodation:-
Ground floor: lounge with granite inglenook fireplace (although
unsuitable for an open fire). Comfortable seating. Colour TV. Dining
room with table and chairs. Kitchen with oak units, breakfast
bar and colour TV well equipped with electric cooker, microwave,
fridge/freezer, and automatic washing machine. First floor: Double
Bedroom and Twin Bedroom. Bathroom with bath and shower fitment,
washbasin, WC and heated towel rail. Parking: space for one
car about 20 yards away from the cottage. Heating: night
storage and electric heater. Special Note: the owner lives
in an adjoining annex, which is completely self-contained. The
cottage is unsuitable for children under 5 as it is so close to
the cliff path.

Vine Cottage is the centre pin above |
Patrick Slevin October 2011 This is a great little cottage, with ample room for four people. It is clean, comfortable and well equipped, even down to a second, modern, television set facing the breakfast bar in the kitchen. The coast path passes right by the garden gate, and the views are wonderful. It is a special delight to fall to sleep and awaken to the sounds of the sea. Note,if it is important to you, that there is no telephone in the cottage, and no mobile signals can be received. We saw that rather as a bonus than an inconvenience. In any case, once you are up the hill and out of the cove, a good signal will be available.
We were made welcome on arrival by the owner of the cottage, who lives next door. Don't worry about that though as Mr Bolitho (Basil) is a charming and courteous host, who will respect your privacy, or engage in conversation, as much or as little as you wish. A tea tray was laid out for us with tea and sugar provided, and a bottle of milk in the fridge.
The cottage is conveniently situated just 100 yards or so from the village pub, restaurant, and other facilities. A good, and safe, parking spot is provide for one car. But beware, when you first arrive, take great care as you negotiate the turn in between two houses. It is a tight turn, particularly if you have a largish car, and is followed by a short, but steep, incline which leads to your well-signed parking spot. Having assessed the way in, you should have no future problems.

Absoloutly brilliant holiday at Vine Cottage. We were made to feel well at home by Basil and Pip. Even though it's on the Costal Path there was no distrubtion and the quietness was perfect. Certainly did not want to leave. Even though it was not our first time down in Cornwall it was our first time down in Cadgwith Cove, and has been the most relaxing holiday yet. Thank you Basil & Pip

What more could you ask for on a holiday ? A perfect position on the coastal path, idlyllic thatched cottage with roses round the door, pub literally yards away, and Basil (the owner) next door, who proved to be an excellent host, and one of a dying breed. The dog would have stayed if he could! July 2011

Vine Cottage was even better than we had hoped for. It is in a perfect position on the coastal path with views over the bay that are amazing. The kitchen was superbly equipped and the lounge was cosy and warm (We visited in November!). The bedrooms were good and the beds comfortable. The cottage is idylic, it was our first time under thatch and we took many photgraphs of our Cadgwith hideaway. It really is amazing |

Staying at Vine Cottage was like a dream come true! We felt "at Home" as soon as we walked in the door, and were made to feel very welcome when we found a tea tray set and the kettle boiled ready for our arrival. Once we were settled the owner made himself known to us and he felt like an old friend within minutes. A charming man with great knowledge of Cadgwith, and happy to share his memories. We had sea views, comfort, peace and quiet, and the sheer pleasure of Cadgwith itself and all the charm and character of the cottage. What more can we say, except that we didn't want to go home!! |
